Why Catholic
is a faith sharing program that gives participants an
opportunity to come together with fellow parishioners to
talk about their faith and how to better live it out.
However, what’s unique about Why Catholic is that it is
based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, so small
groups of 10-12 people gather, they will be guided to a
deeper understanding of the beautiful truths of our
Catholic faith, yet in a very simple and non-threatening
way. Each week, the discussions will revolve around some
aspect of what the Church teaches, based on the
Catechism, but presented in an easy to understand
format. Through faith sharing and discussion,
participants will have the opportunity to share their
own experiences and draw from the faith experiences of
other group members. Groups meet once a week for
approximately 1 1/2 hours to pray, read Scripture and
reflect on the Catechism. These groups will meet for six
weeks in the fall and six weeks in the spring . The next
session will begin the week of February 14th. Over the
course of the program the groups will follow a book each
year with a specific theme. The book that will be used
in the first session is The Celebration of the
Christian Mystery: Sacraments. The other book titles
will be Life in Christ: Walking with God; Christian
Prayer:Deepening My Experience with God and The
Profession of Faith: What We Believe.
