What is a Repository? OR Altar of Repose
A repository is a special place for storing things in plain terms. On Holy Thursday after the Mass of the Lord's Supper the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the Church proper in a specal procession to another place. Churches all around the world create beautiful Altars of Repose for the Blessed Sacrament to stay and be accessible to the faithful for adoration. The Blessed Sacrament is placed in a monstrance or a large covered gold chalice. Altars of Repose are much like gardens and are typically designed to resemble the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus experienced his agony and asked his apostles to stay awake and be with him.
